Magento is a feature-rich eCommerce platform built on open-source technology that provides online merchants with unprecedented flexibility and control over the look, content and functionality of their eCommerce store. Magento’s intuitive administration interface features powerful marketing, search engine optimization and catalog-management tools to give merchants the power to create sites that are tailored to their unique business needs. Magento offers companies the ultimate eCommerce solution.
In the other hand, after a lot of features is a lot of server system requirements, if the system doesn’t meet it ‘s requirements, we have no way to keep the website live with our customer because it will be down all of time even though your website only have 10 visits. Or it will be very slow and just make our customers become angry very quickly when they visit. In the very basic level, magento will require these features of host/server:
- Supported Operating Systems:
- Linux x86, x86-64
- Supported Web Servers:
- Apache 1.3.x
- Apache 2.0.x
- Apache 2.2.x
- Nginx (starting from Magento 1.7 Community and 1.12 Enterprise versions)
- Supported Browsers:
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 and above
- Mozilla Firefox 3.5 and above
- Apple Safari 5 and above on Mac only
- Google Chrome 7 and above
- Adobe Flash browser plug-in should be installed (for back end usage to upload images)
- PHP Compatibility:
- 5.2.13+
- Required extensions:
- PDO_MySQL
- simplexml
- mcrypt
- hash
- GD
- DOM
- iconv
- curl
- SOAP (if Webservices API is to be used)
- Safe_mode off
- Memory_limit no less than 256Mb (preferably 512). In the practice, it should be 1GB
- MySQL:
- 4.1.20 or newer
- InnoDB storage engine
- SSL:
- If HTTPS is used to work in the admin, SSL certificate should be valid. Self-signed SSL certificates are not supported
- Server – hosting – setup:
- Ability to run scheduled jobs (crontab) with PHP 5
- Ability to override options in .htaccess files
Well, it ‘s seem it ‘s too many things need to be checked and it shouldn’t take a lot of time to check these boring stuffs. Don’t worry we already have the check file what is provided by magento, it will show the check detail and we know exactly what we have and what we miss on our host/server. Just simply visit and follow this simple instruction How to know if server is compatible with Magento?
